Prep 2021 is only 3 months away… but are you ready? More importantly, is your little pea ready?
Here are a few of the things your child needs to help with success within their prep year:
– Be able to write their name and identify all letters of the alphabet.
– Sit still (with crossed legs) on the floor for 5-10minutes at a time.
– Know how to hold a pencil and scissors.
– Run, jump and skip.
– Talk in sentences, use words to express emotions and say please and thank you.
– Take on and off their clothes (such as jumpers, shoes and socks).
– Be independent with their toileting.
– Follow directions, be able to make friends and share with others.
In the lead up we recommend 3 key things to do with your child every day. 1. Read to them every day and encourage them to identify letters within books/words (e.g “Let’s find all the ‘a’s, who can find them first”). 2. Play regularly with them, take turns in play try lots of different play activities from sports to pretend play to board games. 3. Practice prewriting shapes and letters of their name – practice them on paper, in the air, in shaving foam on the shower door, in sand, any where you can.
At Little TheraPeas we regularly run Prep readiness groups AND offer free screening assessments to kindies around the local area. Call us to find out more information on our next group or next local screener location and get your child ready for their prep year.
